Commentary On Sutta Nipata《經集》經文評論

覺音三藏言：「沒有其他特別名稱之相故，如斯得名為經集。」本集如斯無附特別名稱，集成雜多之經，名為經集是其他部派之雜藏中，想絕對沒有的。《經集》即南方上座部獨特之物，其集成想是屬於部派分裂以後的。
經集之現在形狀之集成，雖屬相當以後之時代的，但其內容之構成以至諸經，其淵源是甚為古舊，幾乎所有之經，想其原形有部份是部派分裂以前的。這乃以本集之各經各偈比較梵文及漢譯等之部派文獻就可知道。繼承姊崎博士或奧多福蘭克之絕大努力：(M.Anesaki, The sutta–Nipata in chinese JPTS. 1907:M. Anesaki, the Four Boddhist Agamas in Chinese 1908. p.9 ff;R.o. Franke, Die suttanipata Gathas mit ihnen paralleln, ZDMG. 1909; 1910; 1912)之跡，譯者(日譯者水野博士)於新探究之得，如由合舉附錄之對照表可知和本集有關係的他部派之經、偈有很多。
即於本集之七十經中，和其他部派之經差不多一致的，有三十一經，屬於同一本源是很明暸；又有某些類似關係的有三十經，除去重復的，兩者即有五十七經。又本集七十經中，於此經中，一偈亦沒有發見和他部派之文獻的相當偈之經--明顯地和他部派有關之彼岸道(波羅延)品中沒有相當偈九經除外--唯一之八的慈經，二之二的臭穢經，二之八的船經，二之一三的正普行經之四經而已。又於他部派之文獻，見和本集相當之偈，有：
《義足經》 236偈； 《瑜伽師地論》 33偈；《雜阿含經》 145偈；
《中阿含經》 30偈；Mahavastu 111偈； 《大智度論》 28偈；
《佛本行集經》 80偈； 《立世阿毘曇論》 28偈； 《有部律類》 49偈；
《四分律》 26偈； 《法集要頌經》 46偈； Lalitavistara. 17偈；
《出曜經》 44偈；《大毘婆沙論》 15偈；《法句經》 42偈
等，於此以外的不見於對照表。此等皆除去重覆之數，合此等之全體，除去重複的，實和本集偈相當的有五百七十餘偈，達到本集全部一千一百五十偈之半數。再加未發現的，想像他部派之文獻沒有現存之時，或許本集之各經各偈，想是很多和他部派有關係吧！這樣想的時候，本集之內容本身，不能不看為部派分裂以前已有之原形。如本集之《義品》、《彼岸道(波羅延)品》，其中之偈、經名或義品、波羅延之名，是引用相應部(S. II,p.47;p.49;III,P,9;P.12)增支部(A.I.p.133;p.134;II,p.45;III,p.399;p.401;IV,p.63f)律藏等(v,I,p.196；UD.p.59)的，於漢譯諸文化獻亦有此等之相當個處之存在，想其原形說不定可以溯至佛陀在世中。
其次，本集有古舊的淵源，是於本集的偈文中，普通與巴利文法不一致之古代吠陀語之文法，屢處被使用著，而且本集之思想內容，或於本集所表現比丘之日常生活，於佛教固定化以前，甚為朴素之處亦可知道的。
本集諸經，因為堆集如斯純朴之多的佛教思想，至後世《法句經》和本集中之偈，為佛教徒所愛好，見註釋諸書常常引用本集中之偈亦可知道。又見阿育王於婆浮羅之敕文中，鼓勵一般人普遍的讀誦之七種經典中的三種(Munigatha, Moneyasute,Upatisa-pasine)事實存在於本集中(一、一二，三、一一，四、一六)即知本集之諸經被珍重而廣大流通。
